Architecture is the integration of engineering principles and technology concepts concerning infrastructure creation, building and construction. An Architectural engineer designs, plans and construct buildings & structures and also work on spaces that are empty between them. Architectural engineer applies the theory of mathematics, physics and statistical analysis in developing and constructing buildings and structures. Architects play an important role in even constructing a nation as tall buildings, sky scrapers, modern technology in construction have become the order of the day.
An architect not only design buildings but also make our living even more comfortable. They are involved in the design and construction of houses, apartments, shopping and commercial complexes, industrial complexes, airport terminals, hospitals, hotels, schools, stadium and other luxury amenities.
- Diploma - Diploma in Architecture (3 Years )
- B.Arch - Bachelor of Architecture (5 Years )
- M.Arch - Master of Architecture (2 Years )
Students should have successfully completed their 10th grade or equivalent exams with at least 55% marks.
Students should have completed their 10+2 or equivalent exam with Maths, Physics and Chemistry as their major subjects. Few Universities and colleges also conduct an entrance exam and admit students who successfully pass out of the exam. Few premier architecture school admits students based on their successful clearance of the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the council of architecture.
Students should have completed their Under Graduation program successfully for admissions to PG program.
** Students who wish to opt for higher studies after their post-graduation can choose a doctoral or post-doctoral research in any stream of specialisation in Architectural studies.
For direct admission for students should have successfully completed their 10th grade or equivalent exams with at least 55% marks.
Conducted by the Council of Architecture, NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is a national level common Aptitude Test in Architecture. A single window exam, NATA is used for admissions to first year of 5 year B.Arch Degree Course at all recognized Institutions all over country. NATA scores are used for admissions to different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools /colleges of Architecture, to provide common measure for comparing the qualifications of applicants, for admission in addition to their scholastic performance in 10+2 or equivalent examination. As per the stipulations of the Council of Architecture admission guidelines, a candidate applying to any school / college of architecture in India should have achieved 40% score in NATA, i.e. at least 80/200, for consideration of admission into first year B.Arch. Few Universities and colleges also conducts an entrance exam and admits students who successful pass out of the exam. This M.Arch specialisation forms part of the post-graduation studies. Master of Architecture in Architectural Conservation is a post graduate Architecture Engineering course. The eligibility for this program is Bachelor of Architecture or any other equivalent qualification. It is handy in the preparation for professional accreditation in architectural conservation. It also leads to development of skills enabling one to take leadership roles in relation to research and practice. Architectural Conservation deals with the special requirements of built heritage comprising of historic buildings, group of buildings, areas, cities and cultural landscapes in a comprehensive manner. A multi-disciplinary stream, it aims at training architects in tackling conservation issues at planning level, interpreting history in modern context, dealing with structural issues. Candidates are taught how to engage in all aspects of the problem-solving process including different types of developmental issues while being sensitive to social responsibilities, sustainability and urban interventions.
Upon successful completion of course, one can find a career in Colleges & Universities, Housing Planning Departments, Construction Industry, Architectural Conservation, Consultancy Construction, Maintenance Companies.
Since the infrastructure and real estate and construction industry is going through a boom phase there is a great scope of career prospects for qualified Architects. Many Major conglomerate have diversified big time into the construction and real estate industry in the recent past and hence there is a steady increase in the demand for architects with professional qualification and great skill sets. Majors like L&T ECC,TATA Housing, Brigade Group, Sobha Developers, Mantri Developers, Prestige group, Hiranandani group and many well recognized construction and infrastructure development firms recruit a sizeable number of graduates from campus directly.
A well-qualified Architect can start with a salary range of anywhere between INR 1.20 Lakhs to INR 2.50 Lakhs per annum. However, companies offer a more lucrative compensation as per the levels of the aptitude and knowledge of the students and also the quality of the Institute from which the candidate has passed out.
A PG Architect can start with a salary range of anywhere between INR 3.00 lakhs to INR 11.00 lakhs per annum.
